Scorpions

Scorpions for the terrarium by genus: descriptions, care and essential safety rules.

Choosing a scorpion

Scorpions vary greatly in how dangerous they are. Most species in this section belong to the Buthidae, thin-clawed scorpions with potent venom that include the species most dangerous to people. Choose them only after gaining experience with milder species.

General care

  • A dry, lockable terrarium with sand for digging and a hide.
  • A 28–32 °C warm zone with a night-time temperature drop.
  • Food: crickets and roaches no larger than the scorpion's body.
  • Keep each scorpion on its own and use long forceps only.
