Who this section is for
This is where species that rarely come up for sale appear: ants with unusual behaviour, from exotic regions or from genera that do not yet have their own section. They often suit keepers who have kept hardy species and want something new to watch.
Before you buy
- Check the species' Latin name and origin, as they decide the temperature and hibernation needs.
- Find out how the queen founds a colony: a claustral queen needs no food until workers appear, a semi-claustral one must be fed.
- Check whether the species stings and whether keeping it is allowed in your country.
