Description
ANTMART Trigon White Variant B is a 200×200 mm formicarium designed for moisture-loving and large tropical ants. Its white body, triangular chamber geometry, and continuous G23 gypsum layer create a distinctive setup that keeps colony activity clearly visible. The model is intended for species that require elevated moisture throughout the nesting area.
A fully lined gypsum nest
In Variant B, a 6 mm layer of G23 gypsum extends across the entire residential section. The gypsum stores water and helps distribute moisture through the nest. The interior is divided into 5 sections, allowing the available space to be opened gradually as the colony develops. Two independent hydration zones serve different parts of the nest, while the automatic hydration system accepts a 15 mm test tube.
The usable chamber height above the gypsum is 15 mm. This provides room for large queens and workers to turn, move around, and tend brood without the restrictions associated with shallow chambers. The triangular passages also form defined corners where ants can position larvae and cocoons.
Materials selected for humid conditions
The main body is made from chemically resistant PETG, with transparent components made from acrylic. White nylon bolts are used throughout the assembly. Unlike metal fasteners, nylon does not rust when repeatedly exposed to moisture, making it suitable for a formicarium designed around consistent hydration.
The white background creates strong visual contrast when observing exotic ants. PETG is not used merely for its appearance: it retains its structural role in contact with water and is suited to the humid conditions inside the system.
Arena structure and colony control
The arena is 80 mm high. It is covered by two acrylic sheets, a double-layer arrangement intended to reduce moisture-related lid deformation. Mechanical gates secure the designated passages and help manage movement through the setup. As with any formicarium, the lid, connections, and gates should be inspected regularly rather than treated as an absolute escape guarantee.
Species compatibility
The continuously hydrated gypsum floor is primarily intended for moisture-loving genera:
- Pheidole;
- Pachycondyla;
- Odontoponera;
- Carebara.
Based on the stated configuration, it may also be considered for Camponotus nicobarensis, Camponotus pseudoirritans, and Camponotus fedtschenkoi. The 15 mm chambers provide additional vertical space for large Camponotus ants, including Camponotus japonicus. Myrmicaria brunnea and Camponotus maculatus subnudus are also cited in the source as sensitive tropical species relevant to humid housing conditions.
Important limitation
Variant B is not intended for Messor or Pogonomyrmex. Its full gypsum lining maintains moisture across the entire nest, whereas those ants require a drier arrangement. A partially lined configuration, such as Variant A, should be considered for such colonies.
Questions and answers
What is the purpose of the triangular chambers?
Their geometry creates distinct corners that ants may use when positioning cocoons and larvae. The pattern also gives the nest a clearly defined internal structure for observation.
How does the automatic hydration system work?
The design accepts a 15 mm test tube that supplies water to the gypsum layer. The gypsum then acts as a moisture reservoir. Actual unattended operating time varies with room temperature, evaporation, and the amount of water available, so hydration still needs to be monitored.
How should the white body be maintained?
PETG is specified as resistant to water and chemical exposure. Accessible surfaces should be cleaned carefully, without products that could damage PETG or acrylic.
