Description

ANTMART Grid White is a spacious 200×200 mm ant farm with a white PETG base and a partially plaster-lined nest. The pale background makes adult ants and developing brood easier to distinguish during observation. Its square layout combines an extensive chamber system and a tall foraging arena within a single body.

Five zones for controlled expansion

The nesting area is arranged as 5 independent sections with removable partitions. A small colony does not need immediate access to every chamber: the zones can be connected one by one as the worker population grows. This keeps the occupied space proportionate to the needs of the family and reduces the likelihood of vacant chambers being selected as refuse areas.

Hydration across multiple points

Grid White is supplied as Variant A, a partially plaster-based configuration. It incorporates 5 hydration points and a 6 mm layer of high-strength G-23 plaster. The combination of hydrated and comparatively dry areas provides varied conditions within the nest, allowing the colony to place brood in different zones. The actual watering routine must be adjusted to the species, colony population, and ambient conditions rather than applied as a fixed schedule.

The residential chambers provide 15 mm of clearance above the plaster. This creates additional vertical room for larger members of the genus Camponotus. The source identifies Camponotus pseudoirritans, Myrmicaria brunnea, Camponotus japonicus, Camponotus fedtschenkoi, Camponotus nicobarensis, and Camponotus maculatus subnudus as possible occupants; the genus Messor is also mentioned. This list does not replace checking the selected species’ requirements for moisture, ventilation, chamber size, temperature, and feeding.

White PETG and nylon fittings

The body uses white PETG to provide a contrasting observation surface. White nylon hardware holds the structure together and does not rust when exposed to humid conditions. Consequently, the fittings around the plaster layer avoid the corrosion products associated with metal screws. The pale fittings also maintain a consistent appearance across the Grid White body.

A tall arena with a layered top

The 80 mm-high arena provides the working area for feeding and routine colony care. It is covered by two acrylic layers. This double construction improves resistance to bending caused by changes in moisture or temperature, while sliding catches keep the lid in its closed position. Lid contact, joints, and service openings should all be inspected before introduction, particularly when the chosen species has very small workers.

Questions and answers

Why divide the nest into five sections?
The separate zones allow the nest to be opened gradually. A young colony starts with a limited area, and further chambers can be made available as it develops. This makes the early colony easier to maintain and helps the ants organise the space they actually occupy.

What distinguishes Variant A?
One portion of the nest contains the G-23 plaster layer, while another portion remains comparatively dry. Five hydration points distribute access to moisture across the construction. The amount and frequency of watering should be selected for the individual colony, with care taken to avoid flooding or persistent excess moisture.

Why are the fittings made from nylon?
Nylon hardware does not rust in the humid environment surrounding the hydration system. This is especially relevant beside plaster that is regularly exposed to water. The white fittings also match the visual design of the Grid White enclosure.

Can the farm accommodate large ants?
The chambers have 15 mm of vertical clearance above the plaster, and the source associates this arrangement with larger Camponotus species. The body size of the chosen ants and their specific husbandry requirements should still be compared with the farm parameters before purchase.

Does the double lid remove every escape risk?
The two acrylic layers and mechanical catches strengthen the arena closure and reduce unintended movement of the top. They do not eliminate the need to inspect gaps and openings or to use a species-appropriate escape barrier when necessary.
