Description
ANTMART Flow Yellow 220x110 Version A is a vivid formicarium designed for observing an ant colony as it develops. The saturated yellow body provides a distinctive background for watching workers travel through the nest, arrange food stores, and tend the occupied chambers. Its flowing, bionic Flow-tech geometry combines a decorative appearance with a clearly organized interior, while the partial hydration layout creates both moister and drier areas within the same nest.
Construction and materials
The model combines transparent and colored 3 mm acrylic with components made from PETG plastic. White nylon fasteners hold the structure together. Nylon does not rust when exposed to moisture, and its color fits the yellow-and-white design without introducing visible metal fittings. Keeping metal fasteners away from the hydrated plaster area also prevents corrosion residue from developing around that part of the formicarium.
The farm measures 220x110 mm. Its residential chambers use the smooth outlines associated with the Flow series. Passages in the dry zone are up to 21 mm high, leaving room for comparatively large workers to move through them. Species suitability should still be assessed by considering worker size, humidity requirements, colony growth, and the way the particular ants use nest space.
A divided moisture environment
Version A contains a replaceable 6 mm slab of high-strength G-23 plaster. The material’s capillary structure absorbs water and transfers moisture to the neighboring section of the nest. Because the slab covers only part of the residential area, the layout retains drier compartments alongside the hydrated chambers.
This gradient lets the colony select an area for each current need. The moister zone can be used for brood, while dry chambers provide space for resting and storing food. The distinction is particularly relevant for Messor ants. Harvesters keep grain in dry storage chambers, where it has less contact with moisture. The keeper must nevertheless monitor hydration and inspect the stored seeds: a partial plaster system supports zoning but does not remove the need for regular care or observation.
Arena and secured cover
The arena is 80 mm high, providing a working area for feeding, cleaning, and adding suitable décor according to the needs of the chosen species. It is closed with a double acrylic lid. The two-layer construction increases rigidity and reduces the likelihood of the acrylic bending in response to evaporation or changing room conditions.
Mechanical latches additionally press the cover against the body. They help keep the lid in position and reduce the risk of gaps forming during normal use or careful relocation. Before moving the formicarium, every latch, joint, and ventilation component should be inspected separately. The fastening system improves stability, but it is not a substitute for checking the enclosure before transport.
Space that can be opened gradually
Removable dividers split the residential area into two large sections. A young colony can initially occupy the smaller available area while the second section remains closed. Once the family grows and makes active use of its current chambers, the divider can be removed to provide additional nesting space. This staged approach avoids giving a small colony more rooms than it can effectively occupy and maintain.
The configuration is intended for Messor, Camponotus, and other ants whose requirements suit a combination of dry and hydrated zones. Compatibility depends on the size of the ants, the humidity range required by the species, and the expected number of workers. Species that need uniformly moist nesting conditions may require a different hydration configuration instead of the partial G-23 plaster used in Version A.

Questions and answers
- Why does Flow Yellow use white nylon fasteners?
Nylon does not rust in a humid environment and therefore does not leave corrosion marks around the plaster or acrylic. The white fasteners also complement the yellow body. Like the other structural connections, they should still be inspected periodically.
- Why is Version A useful for Messor colonies?
Only part of the nest is hydrated by the plaster slab, leaving dry chambers available for grain storage. This zoning reflects the way harvester ants separate brood areas from seed stores. The keeper remains responsible for adjusting water input and monitoring both the nest and its food reserves.
- What do the double lid and latches contribute?
Two acrylic layers make the cover more rigid, while the mechanical latches hold it against the body. Together they reduce the possibility of gaps caused by acrylic deformation. This is useful with active exploring species, including Camponotus, but the closure should be checked after every feeding, cleaning session, or relocation.
- When should the second nest section be opened?
Extra chambers should become available when the colony has grown enough to make active use of its existing section. There is no universal schedule; the distribution of workers, brood, and stored food provides the practical guide.
